The Montgomery County Young Democrats are a vibrant, diverse, and highly active community of young people seeking to make positive change through political action. Membership is open to any registered Democrat (if they’re able) between the ages of 14-35 who lives, works, and/or goes to school in Montgomery County.

Advocate in our Community
MCYD members have successfully supported campaigns to raise the regional and state minimum wage, bring Rapid Bus Transit and Paid Sick Leave to Montgomery County, extend the right to marry to same-sex couples and in-state tuition to undocumented DREAMers, and protect the County’s Plastic Bag Fee from repeal. We have an ambitious legislative agenda to secure economic equality and educational opportunity, advance human rights, and build a healthier, more sustainable community.

Gain Valuable Skills and Experience
MCYD offers many opportunities to gain the experience and skills needed to be an effective political advocate in our community. In addition to the valuable organizing and technical skills members learn through participation in our advocacy efforts, members can request funds to participate in local trainings and leadership development programs. We have supported participation in Emerge MD, candidate trainings specifically for women and people of color, and events like the annual Women’s Legislative Shadow Day and Represent! Leadership Series.

Connect with Other Leaders
MCYD strives to be an organization that reflects the diversity and values of young people in our County. We offer many opportunities to connect with other members, clubs, advocacy organizations, and our elected officials through our monthly after-meeting socials and events like our 4th of July Cookout, Holiday Party, networking programs, and more.

Strengthen the Democratic Party
MCYD works closely with the Young Democrats of Maryland, Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, other Democratic Clubs, Democratic candidates, and our elected officials to strengthen the Democratic Party here and in nearby regions. Members have the opportunity to volunteer in grassroots campaigning, fundraising, and media events in local, state, and national races.
